Founded in 1863, four years after the death of Thomas Dent Mütter, the Mütter Museum is open year round and boasts a collection of over 20,000 objects guranteed -- from fluid-preserved anatomical and pathological specimens, to models, medical insturments and memoribilia of famous scientists, physicians and patients.
Gretchen Worden -- Grethcen was the beloved and outspoken Director of the Mütter Museum from 1982 to her passing in 2004. Witty, brash and curious, Gretchen was a born collector. Her tireless work with the Mütter Museum brought it national recognition, and during her tenure there, the visitor's log grew from several hundred vistors a year to over 60,000 tourists annually. The screenplay Mütter would not have been written if not for Gretchen's generousity and faith. She is missed greatly, and has been memorialized by her friends and colleagues through a new gallery in the Mütter Museum has been opened in her honor.
Greater Philadelphia Film Office -- With a mission to attract film and television productions of every kind to the Greater Philadelphia area, the Greater Philadelphia Film Office (GPFO) is the largest supporter of Philadelphia-based filmmakers and projects. The GPFO, and in particular director Joan Bressler, have been instrumental in promoting Mütter in LA and beyond, and were responsible for creating the beautiful Mütter short, found here.
Philadelphia Film Festival -- In 2003, the Philadelphia Film Festival, in association with the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, awarded Mütter the Grand Prize in Screenwriting. Currently in its 14th year, the Philadelphia Film Festival continues to seek and promote film's most innovative new voices.
Sloan Foundation -- Decidated to enhancing people's lives by providing a better understanding of the increasingly scientific and technological environment in which we live, the Sloan Foundation devotes millions of dollars in grants and fellowships to producing art which celebrates and illuminates science. The Foundation have relationships with several film schools and film festivals, and awards years those films and screenplays which best serve their mission.
Hamptons International Film Festival -- In 2004, the Hamptons Internaional Film Festival, in association with the Sloan Foundation, awarded Mütter a Sloan Fellowship in Screenwriting. Currently in its 13th year, the Hampton's International Film Festival is one of the most respected and celebrated film festivals on the east coast.
Ernie Cline -- Screenwriter and author Ernest Cline has been instrumental in the development of the screenplay for Mütter as well as the creator and designer of this website.
Claude Le Monde -- Artist/Writer Claude Le Monde is the Lydia Deetz responsible for designing the Mütter postcards which inspired this website.
