February 20, 2010: In their review Everything is Everything, The Legendary Editors John Hancock and Katie Moore writes, "Cristin O'Keefe Aptowitcz's new poetry collection, Everything is Everything, from Write Bloody Publishing, offers an insight few collections of verse accomplish; combining carefully crafted allegory, nerd-pop observationalism, and the footnotes you could only hope to find scribbled on the pages of a dusty library history text. To read the entire review, please check here.

February 15, 2010: In their review of the Winter 2009 issue of Rattle, The New Pages spotlighted Cristin's work, noting, "It’s hard not to be curious about nearly two-hundred pages of poems that begin, as this issue does, with Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz’s oh-so-American-current-preoccupation: I can now confirm that I am not just fatter / than everyone I work with, but I’m also fatter / than all their spouses. Even the heavily bearded / bear in accounting has a little otter-like boyfriend. Many of this issue’s poems are much like this one by Aptowicz, sarcastic, edgy, and conversational, sometimes surprisingly self-revelatory and/or critical." To read the entire review, please check it out here.

February 4, 2010: In his review Everything is Everything, decomP Editor Jason Jordan writes, "Aptowicz always finds something interesting to say. And that's why her poetry is so endearing. Often quirky, funny, and downright bizarre, Everything is Everything addresses numerous topics via confessional free verse... If you're looking for a read that enchants in spite of its occasional flaws, buy Everything is Everything. On the whole, your time and money will be well spent." To read the entire review, please check here.

January 17, 2010: In his review of Everything is Everything in Small Press Reviews, Marc Schuster calls Cristin "a master of juxtaposition" and spotlights several of his favorite poems in the book, including "L'Chaim" where he write that a parallel found in the poem "demands further examination, as it implies that we are all, in some way, dying as we appear to celebrate, committing small suicides as we force ourselves to go through the received motions of daily life. Is there anything more than preserving the culture of our ancestors, the poem all but demands?" To read the full review, please click here.

January 14, 2010: What To Wear During an Orange Alert editor Jason Behrends asks Cristin questions about day jobs, poetry slams, Write Bloody and whether there will be an illustrated poetry books in her future, and Cristin responds by talking about giraffe rape, road trips, medical oddities and her obsession with President James Buchanan and his "wife," Senator William Rufus King. December 10, 2009: Fantastic online literary journal Danse Macabre has published an early review of Cristin's latest book, Everything is Everything, which is scheduled for a mid-January release. Reviewer Jaq Greenspon begins his review by saying, "The hardest thing about reviewing Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz's latest poetry collection, Everything is Everything, is not falling immediately, irrevocably, hopelessly in love with her right from the beginning..." and ends it by writing "Amidst it all, Everything is Everything is everything a book of poetry should be. It reflects life and makes us think. It exposes truths and hides secrets. It's the book you should buy your friends who don't like poetry." To read everything that comes between, please check out this extremely generous review here.

December 7, 2009: Fantastic indie lit blog What to Wear During an Orange Alert has published the first review of Everything is Everything, which is scheduled for a mid-January release. Reviewer Jason Behrends writes "When Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz says 'everything' she means everything. What is so remarkable about her latest collection of poems is that her life is not all that remarkable, and she likes it that way. I mean when she is not writing about all of the harm man has inflicted on animals over the years (crack squirrels or giraffes trained to rape), she captures the commonplace with humor and wit. From office dynamics to subway stereotypes to the typical life of a writer, she shares this experiences that many have shared, but in a way that only a few can." August 18, 2008: In his review of Words In Your Face for City Limits, Curtis Stephen writes, "Words In Your Face combines rich oral history -- slam champion Saul Williams articulates the motivations that ultimately drive the performers -- with solid reporting to trace the genre's humble origin at the Green Mill Tavern in Chicago to its later prominence in New York City during the early 1990s... Aptowicz is as a witty, if not dispassionate, guide who accomplishes the challenging task of appealing both to regular slam attendees and those who have never been to a session..." Aptowicz has done a most admirable job of getting NY Slam pathfinders, cheerleaders and exponents alike to talk candidly and honestly about about their experiences, and where they see it all headed in future. WORDS IN YOUR FACE may not inspire the detractors to check out their local Slam night, but for its equally legion fans, it is a vital window into that world, and as such, a perfect update and companion to 1996's masterful documentary SLAM NATION." And the poems are all about sex." To read the full review, check out the BookSlut column here.

Although many may know the backgrounds and names of the poets who made a big splash on popular TV programs like MTV's Spoken Word Unplugged and Def Poetry Jam, the stories of Slam’s beginnings and how it continued to grow in spite of its sudden popularity are what make this book so fascinating..."
